Crisis Averted
What happens when your station goes silent? For many community broadcasters, it is not a question of if, but when. The Technorama Roadshow is built to help you prevent that moment and recover fast when it happens. This year’s theme, Crisis Averted, focuses on practical, real world strategies to keep your station on air, reduce risk, and build systems your team can actually manage.
Broadcast tech isn’t just about gear and networks — it’s about resilience. That’s why TR26 roadshows will focus on
- Practical tips to secure your station’s broadcast
- Real world examples of on air crises
- An introduction to the people and tech you need to know
- Discussions of what the future holds for broadcast technologists
Why You Should Attend
Community radio stations operate in challenging environments. Limited budgets, volunteer driven teams, aging equipment, and increasing technical complexity all create risk. When something fails, the impact is immediate. This event is designed to give you simple, effective approaches that work in the real world. You will walk away with ideas you can implement immediately.
What You Will Learn
Throughout the day, you will gain practical insights into keeping your station on air during failures, building resilient and reliable systems, avoiding common technical risks, creating simple backup and recovery processes, managing cybersecurity and system updates, improving documentation and knowledge sharing, and planning for future technology changes. This is not theory. It is based on real experiences from stations just like yours.
Real Stories. Real Lessons.
One of the most valuable parts of the day is the Horror Stories session. You will hear real incidents including ransomware attacks, equipment failure, human error, and transmission issues. More importantly, you will learn what went wrong, what should have been in place, and what simple steps could have prevented it.
Built for Community Radio
This event is designed specifically for station managers, technical volunteers, content producers, committee members, and anyone responsible for keeping a station running. Whether you are highly technical or just getting started, you will find value.
Learn from Others
You will also have the opportunity to meet people from other stations, share challenges and solutions, learn what is working across the sector, and build connections you can rely on later.
Simple. Practical. Actionable.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is resilience. A simple, well documented system with backups will outperform a complex system nobody understands.

| Friday Morning Coffee and Chat An intro to TR and all things tech. Come and have some fun with tech and get an intro to TR26 Gold. It’s a chance to riff and get started. Remember the line: “you’re not born with this knowledge”? That’s crucial. Nobody knows everything, and at some point you know nothing. But we know that lots of people come to a Technorama gig and it’s their first time, or they know nothing about tech, or they have a specific problem that needs to be solved… and would any of these be you? Excellent. On Friday morning 24 July, join John Maizels and others to get an intro to basic tech – even if you’ve never seen a wire before, this is for you. We’ll explain what you need to know to get the best from the TR26 Gold Roadshow. What to look for in the station tours. What questions to ask. Maybe even how to learn enough tech to fool people at a party (yes, just like wine appreciation). Bring questions, and a yen for picking up some new info. No conversation or question is too stupid – in fact, we might even give some prizes if you can stump the chump. Join us at the Sofitel at 1030 on 24 July. We’ll provide the beverages and a bit of nibbles ahead of lunch. |
