President’s Report – Technorama Annual General Meeting 2025
The past year has been one of growth, connection, and recognition for Technorama. As President, I am proud to present this report for the 2024–2025 financial year and reflect on a year that strengthened both our community and our purpose.
Strengthening Our Role in Community Broadcasting
This year, Technorama achieved formal recognition as a Community Radio Sector Representative Organisation (SRO), a significant milestone that acknowledges our ongoing contribution to the technical and operational strength of community broadcasting across Australia.
Being part of the Community Radio Sector Representative Organisation framework places Technorama alongside other key bodies including the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA), the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF), and the Community Media Training Organisation (CMTO).
This recognition confirms what many already knew: Technorama plays a vital role in supporting the engineers, technologists, and technical volunteers who keep community radio on air every day. We are grateful for the trust placed in us and for the support that allows us to continue this important work.
Technorama Roadshow 2025 (TR25Road)
Our Technorama Roadshow (TR25Road) took our training and networking directly to regional and metropolitan communities this year, building on the success of the national conference model.
The series began in Bendigo, Victoria, where we reignited in-person learning after years of online focus. The next stop, Perth, Western Australia, was a milestone as our first-ever Technorama event in WA. It drew a fantastic mix of new faces and long-time supporters, all eager to share skills, explore new technology, and connect across the continent. Finally, we wrapped up in Toowoomba, Queensland, with over thirty participants gathering at the Empire Theatre for an inspiring weekend of workshops, technical sessions, and networking.
Each stop on the road reinforced the same message: our community is strong, engaged, and ready to share knowledge.
TR Tuesday Webinars – Learning Never Stops
Our TR Tuesday webinar program remains one of the most accessible and popular ways Technorama shares expertise. Over the past year, sessions have covered topics that matter deeply to stations of every size, including audio processing, cybersecurity, outside broadcasting, and the always popular “Stump the Chumps” Q&A events where experts take questions live from participants.
Sessions such as “On Air, Not at Risk: Cybersecurity for Community Broadcasters” and “Ready, Set… Broadcast!” helped participants address practical challenges while embracing new technologies. Our “AI, Now with Added Intelligence (You)” session also drew strong attendance, reflecting growing curiosity about how artificial intelligence is shaping broadcasting and content production.
Every TR Tuesday represents a collaboration between experienced broadcasters and curious learners, and that mix is what keeps Technorama thriving.
Hiring a Project Officer to Strengthen Capacity
During 2024–2025, Technorama recognised the growing scale and ambition of its programs and took a decisive step to enhance operational capacity by creating and filling the role of Project Officer. This position was established to provide professional, consistent, and ongoing support to the organisation’s activities, including event coordination, communication with members and partners, administration, and project delivery.
This important role has been made possible through the generous support of the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF). Their funding enabled Technorama to employ a dedicated Project Officer, ensuring that key initiatives such as the Technorama Roadshow, TR Tuesday webinars, and sector engagement projects are delivered effectively and with greater consistency.
The Project Officer plays a central role in coordinating logistics, supporting grant administration, strengthening relationships with partner organisations, and maintaining the governance and reporting standards required under Technorama’s recognition as a Community Radio Sector Representative Organisation (SRO).
By employing a CBF-funded Project Officer, Technorama has streamlined operations, improved communication with members, and created a more stable foundation for future growth. This development has also allowed the volunteer Committee to focus on strategy, leadership, and sector advocacy—ensuring Technorama continues to build technical excellence and collaboration across community broadcasting.
Expanding Capacity and Support
Technorama gratefully acknowledges the continued support of our sector partners, including the Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF), Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (CBAA), and the Community Media Training Organisation (CMTO). Their collaboration enables us to deliver programs, training, and events that build sector-wide capability.
We were also proud to welcome our first Business Member, Studiio, a cloud-based listener communication platform designed for radio broadcasters. Partnerships like this highlight the intersection of technology and creativity that defines our community.
Our Represent! Bursary continued to provide vital travel support for members, ensuring that cost or distance never prevents participation in Technorama activities.
Thank You to the Committee
I want to extend my deepest thanks to the Technorama Committee. Every project, webinar, and roadshow happens because of their commitment, creativity, and willingness to volunteer time and expertise. The dedication shown behind the scenes allows Technorama to keep connecting people and solving problems.
To every member, partner, and supporter, thank you. Your engagement makes Technorama more than an organisation. It makes it a community.
Looking Ahead
As we look to 2026 and beyond, Technorama’s goals remain clear:
Grow our technical training and mentoring network
Deliver both in-person and online learning opportunities for all skill levels
Support innovation and collaboration across the community broadcasting sector
Build on our new SRO responsibilities to advocate for technical excellence
Expand our membership and invite new voices into the conversation
Strengthen our operational capacity through ongoing staff support
If you are passionate about broadcasting, engineering, or technology, we encourage you to join Technorama, become a member, or put your hand up for the committee. Our community thrives on participation, and there is always room for more energy, ideas, and leadership.
Thankyou!
Technorama would not exist without the collective effort of so many people, and the volunteers who lend a hand when it matters most. Together, we continue to strengthen the technical heart of community radio.
