Thanks for Joining Us at the NEMBC Conference 2026
Technorama would like to thank everyone who attended our “Technology for Better Broadcasting” presentation at the NEMBC Conference 2026.
Community broadcasting continues to evolve rapidly. Stations are now balancing traditional broadcast operations with digital systems, networking, cybersecurity, remote broadcasting, cloud services, automation and volunteer training. The goal of our session was simple:
Make station technology easier to manage, easier to support and easier to pass on to the next generation.
One of the strongest messages from the presentation was this:
Start small. Document one thing. Invite one person in. Then keep improving.
Too many stations rely on one or two people holding critical technical knowledge. When that knowledge is not documented, stations become vulnerable during faults, emergencies or volunteer changes. Our session focused on practical ways stations can improve resilience without needing massive budgets or large technical teams.
Key Topics Covered
During the presentation we explored:
- Building simple station documentation
- Creating emergency contact and recovery systems
- Mapping transmission chains and network infrastructure
- Cybersecurity basics for community broadcasters
- Backup and disaster recovery planning
- Outside broadcast technology and compliance
- Training and growing future station techs
- Practical maintenance and incident logging systems
The session encouraged stations to take on the “DocoBlitz Weekend Challenge”:
Choose a weekend for DocoBlitz. A two-day mid-week will work also.
Get the team together. Walk through the station. Document the systems that matter most. Create simple diagrams, recovery notes, contact lists and passwords processes that future volunteers can follow.
By Sunday night, your station should have enough information for the next volunteer, the next fault and the next emergency.
A Free Tool Worth Exploring
A most-discussed tool highlighted in the session was StationLog.
StationLog is a simple and practical logging platform designed to help stations keep track of:
- Technical faults
- Incident logging
- Broadcast issues
- Maintenance reminders
- Backup schedules
- Equipment checks
- Technical history and accountability
A good logging system turns random problems into useful knowledge that helps stations make better decisions over time.

Join the Technorama Community
Technorama exists to support community broadcasters with practical technology knowledge, peer support and real-world solutions.
Membership helps us continue building:
- Technical webinars and training
- Community support networks
- Documentation resources
- Practical workshops
- “Stump the Chumps” Q&A sessions
- Future Technorama events and unconferences
- Support pathways for new station techs
Most importantly, Technorama connects people who are solving the same problems across the community broadcasting sector.
Membership is only $10 and directly supports the growth of technical knowledge sharing across Australian community broadcasting.
What Happens Next?
We encourage every station to:
- Choose a weekend for DocoBlitz
- Document one important system
- Review backups and passwords
- Create a simple equipment map
- Bring more volunteers into the process
- Encourage anyone who is involved with or interested in tech to join Technorama. $10. Immediate benefits.
Small improvements made consistently create stronger and more resilient stations.
If you would like to stay connected, learn more, or become part of the growing support network for station technology, join Technorama today.
We look forward to continuing the conversation.
