At this year’s CBAA Conference, we’re very excited about a new type of workshop. Part of the Technorama “Tech for the Non-Technical” series, and sponsored by the CMTO, we’re proud to bring you Tech Connect: Wiring Up! at the CMTO Media Lab 2018.
If you’ve ever wanted to fix a lead but don’t have the skills, or you’d like some coaching on how to solder better, this is the place to be.
What?
You’ll learn:
- why soldering works
- how to solder confidently
- preparation of wires for soldering – stripping and tinning
- how to fit a connector
- how to get ready for the big moment
- how to tell if the joint you’ve done is good or bad (“dry”)
- how to finish off a cable and test it
- what to do if things don’t go to plan
The session will be facilitated by Emma Couch, John Maizels and Mike Tobin, so you’re in excellent (soldering) hands.
Who?
This is the ideal class if you’ve never soldered before in your life, or have limited experience. Soldering is a simple skill that’s easy to learn and so, so useful.
When?
There are two sessions on Friday 9 November, running 1400-1500 and 1500-1600. You can register for the sessions at the conference – but be quick, because there are only 10 places available at each session.
Where?
In the CMTO Media Lab, which will be well signposted.
Cost?
Nothing – it’s an option in your CBAA delegate package. We provide all the tools and supplies that you will need, and at the end of the session you will have an XLR microphone extension lead to take home with you and amaze your colleagues and household.
