TR14 – the recap

Technorama 2014 was  held at the Maltese Club, Parkville Melbourne

Technorama 2014 wound up at lunch time Sunday 3 August 2014 with delegates proclaiming a major success.  Headed into day two, after a brilliant feed at the Technorama Dinner.  Two teams tied for the prize of Trivial Brainiacs (who knew what a “Wenis” was???).

Final day get-together included a review of Artsound’s transmission project; exposition of some arcane antenna behaviour; quick lesson on tropospheric ducting; a what’s-happening update from all stations present, and a few valuable tid-bits.   We thanked, we hugged, and we bade farewell… until next year.

Read the Radioinfo coverage (our story is unlocked, but you can and should subscribe to the site here – ask about the Community Radio Robin Hood rate).

The actual up-to-the-minute programme is here.   We said it might change, and it has (a little – we figure we all understand the concept of “adjust on test”).  Any further programme tweaks will be posted online, so this version is correct.

Registration

Very last call – register right now and attend for  only $75.00    Unbelievable value!!   Full details and printable formage is here.

Yes, if you’re really nice to Heidi, we will accept your on-site registration.   Being nice means “send an email now” and we’ll work out how to squeeze you in!!

(Oh, and you may bring a non-conference friend for only $45 – includes all social functions and meals).

Why attend?

If you’re involved with technology in community radio, interested in radio technology, or just feel like hanging out with us for the weekend, Technorama is your conference.

As a recommender or decision-maker in your station, Technorama gives you a unique opportunity to find out what decisions others in the sector are making, and why, and to tap into some of the best expertise available in the country.

Come to Melbourne from 1-3 August 2014, and join Community Radio technologists and broadcast equipment suppliers from across Australia.

Special guest of honour and keynote speaker:  Steve Ahern OAM joins us for the full weekend.

The Conference

Share experiences, Ask Questions, Celebrate achievements. Meet colleagues.   Establish networks.

Scheduled workshop agenda items include:

  • Transmission site design
  • Our own Buy/swap/sell – how to find stuff you need and pass on stuff you don’t!
  • 850 MHz Band Plan: where can you go and what are the options?
  • Grant applications – what works and what doesn’t
  • Telling the time in your studio, and syncing with remotes
  • Plus the regular Friday night BBQ and drinks

The welcome

From 1830 on Friday 1 August – the all-singing, all-dancing pizzathon hosted at 3PBS-FM.

The Dinner

From 1830 on Saturday 2 August.  Always fun, and this year with added trivia.  Yes, get a table together and compete for valuable prizes.  Brush up your resistor colour code and that arcane formula for resonance.  We have at least one hard-t0-get IC, and some BC109C transistors to give away to whoever can answer the tricky questions.

And the mouth-watering dinner:  check it out here.  You won’t be disappointed, or hungry.

Plus more on site

Don’t forget:  vendor equipment displays, and the chance to chew the fat with industry experts.

Test & Tag Qualification

Megger-successful!!  Technorama has delivered training towards the Test and Tag Unit of Competency for over 12 students.

Those found Competent will receive the formal statement of attainment, allowing them to perform Test and Tag for their station’s leads and equipment.

Accommodation

The Vibe is FULL!!   If you don’t already have a room booked, then the chances are you will have to check with one of the other nearby hotels.  See the registration form for details on those; there are two which are only a few minutes’ walk to the Maltese Club ( and Technorama venue).   You’ll be OK if you’ve registered with the Vibe and have a confirmed room.
